Ray-Ray Catches A Fish – Kompact Automat

Ray-Ray Catches A Fish, © Cary Miller 2005

Shot this in March on the Big Island of Hawaii. My best bud since high school, Ray, got it in his head he wanted to catch a fish with nothing but a piece of bamboo, some string, and a few pieces of calamari.

Amazingly, he did it.

And then he threw it back.

Luckily I had along my trusty LOMO Kompact Automat (LC-A) to capture the occassion correctly. Fuji Superia 100. At Dusk.

Day of the Black Dogs (Kompact Automat)

Day of the Black Dogs, © Cary Miller 2005

I think this photo really shows what a LOMO can do when the light is right... the LC-A shoots particularly well during the dusk hours, with moody vignettes and the whole bit.

Of course, the real trick is getting things in focus when the light is starting to get low, but I've found you get better with practice.

I believe this one was Fuji Provia 100, shot at ASA100.

Risky Business On The LOMO LC-A

Risky Business ;), © Cary Miller 2005

OK, I've been away for a while, but I'm back again and badder than ever ;D This was shot on my LOMO LC-A using Fuji Superia 100, and exposure set on "A."

I've always loved these Auto-Portrait shots. This one is cross procedd digitally, via a curve I developed in Photoshop and then uploaded into my scanner.

This is a look across the pond at Disney's California Adventure. This was my first real attempt with a faster film, and I'm pretty happy with it.

This was shot on Kodak 400, rated 400.

Independence Day, 2005

Independence Day, 2005, © Cary Miller 2005

I really had no idea how these fireworks shots were going to turn out, but surprisingly the LC-A captured them much better than my digital. Personally, I've never taken a photo of fireworks that looked anywhere near this good.

shot on Fuji Superia 100, rated 100.

People think of California as nothing but palm trees and movie stars, but the vast majority of our state is one big, flat valley...
